Brooklyn Boulders’ partner brand, BKBX, was in need of a friendly facelift. The original brand’s look-feel was dark, intense, and unapproachable. It proved to scare potential members away by inaccurately portraying itself as a gym for elites, only.
With adjustments to key brand elements, the updated BKBX brand became more friendly and attainable.
Pivoting to a friendlier look-feel included:
• Adding a fun, bright color palette
• Softening imagery by shifting to bright, clean photos with subjects that are diverse, natural, and approachable.
• Adding more playful typographic touches, including the use of a bolder version of the brand font, Montserrat.

For Brooklyn Boulders, Pride Month is an important time of year. Every June, BKB facilities host special events in support of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2018, we looked to depart from the standard “put a rainbow on it” approach by breaking free of the colorful arch and using bold, vibrant colors in a new way…all while being just a little bit weird.
Vibrantly painted and decorated hands were used to represent BKB’s diverse community of climbers as they grasped colorful climbing holds and intertwined with each other. Posters were displayed side by side, collaging walls and windows with BKB’s inclusive hashtag #BKBLove.
Materials produced:
• Painted hand photoshoot and art direction
• 16 unique promotional posters
• Event postcards and handouts
• Print and digital ads
• Digital website and email banners
• Animated gif
• Promotional video (art direction)

Each year, Chicago’s Harris Theater for Music and Dance aims to be a meeting place for world-class performers and community-based outreach—a place where audiences are inspired.
The “Let it Move You” season campaign was a fusion of brilliant colors, bold typography, and dynamic imagery that expressed the energy and enthusiasm of the theater, itself. “Move” became a word of duplicity—meaning both the physical movement of dance and the emotional movement the audience feels when experiencing a performance.
Materials produced:
• Campaign theme and messaging
• Season brochures and direct mailers
• Large-scale posters
• Digital web banners
• City-wide street banners
• CTA bus and train ads
